Response in Education Sector

Bhotsipa V.D.C, Sindhupalchok District

The twin quakes -- the 7.8 magnitude earthquake of 25th April 2015 and the 7.3 magnitude aftershock of 12th May-- turned many schools into rubble.  Most schools in the rural areas of the country, like Bhotsipa V.D.C in Sindhupalchok were constructed with mud and mortar.  Most of these came down with the first quake.  In Sindhupalchowk district alone only 34 of the 4962 classrooms in 691  schools (of them 34  private)  were deemed to be free of damage.  A total of 2746 were said to be fully damaged and 1273 had major damage.

..... These are just one of those Schools...

Seeing our work, the people wanted our support in education sector as well i.e making TLC in different school. As per the plan the work got started and was tend to be completed as fast as possible because the monsoon season was near and also our target was to complete it with in one month so that we can also look after the other project i.e making water pipeline for the community people as well as school.

In Bhotsipa village there is lack of water source. People have to walk miles in order to fetch the water. Due to the earthquake the villagers staying in lowland have shifted up because its not safe staying down. But there is no source of water. Since JAFS has been doing many water project for the Bhotsipa villagers from very early so knowing their difficulties this time also for the community plus school by searching the water resource and after testing the water in laboratory, we started making water tanks in different places i.e where the water can be stored, with the water pipelines for different community i.e one water pipe will be used by 3-4 houses.

We started the work as soon as possible in three villages :-

  •  No. of users :- 62 homes (434 users) and 370 students
  • No. of Taps :- 7
